Kermit the Frog

The Kermit the frog character was created in 1955 by Jim Henson. It is a puppet of a green frog that talks and has appeared in many childrens TV shows. The original puppet was made from an old green coat and ping pong balls for the eyes. The first time that the Kermit character appeared was not on the "Muppet Show" but on a show called "Sam and Friends". The original puppet can be found in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington DC. Kermit also played a significant role on Sesame Street, Muppet movies and has made many special appearances. After Jim Henson died, Steve Whitmire took the part of Kermit. There is now a statue of Jim Henson with Kermit in a Universaty in Maryland.
